What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Oct 01, 2023

Naturopathic medicine is primary medical care that integrates modern medical science with traditional natural therapies. The underlying cause of disease is addressed while supporting the natural healing process of the human body. Naturopathic medicine treats the whole person which includes the physical, mental/ emotional, spiritual, environmental and social aspects. Health is restored using therapies from the sciences of clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and physical therapies such as massage and Bowen technique. A personalized treatment plan is developed for the patient after information is gathered through listening to chief concerns and a complaint oriented physical exam. The patient is then educated on how to use safe, natural approaches to optimize their health.

Naturopathic physicians are general medical practitioners who are specialists in natural medicine. They are extensively trained in modern medical science at accredited medical schools, after completing an undergraduate degree. The training includes how to diagnose by signs and symptoms, laboratory testing, physical exams and other diagnostic tools available to them.

We provide each person our complete attention, while seeking the underlying cause of imbalance. We know that everyone is unique and their characteristics, lifestyle and environment are all taken into account in order to treat the whole person.

The state of Indiana does not currently license naturopathic doctors. Amy Tweedle ND maintains an active license through The Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, and is not a licensed healthcare provider in the state of Indiana itself. Although trained to provide primary care, including performing physical exams, Amy cannot diagnose or treat, but can offer wellness coaching and education. She highly recommends that you continue to receive care from a licensed primary care provider. For more licensing information, or to help Indiana pass licensing legislation, please visit www.inanp.org.

To help with INANP's fundraising, we will host a Women's Natural Health Conference in 2024. For ticket info., please visit www.inanpnourish.com
